Reframing the Past, Rebuilding the Future
Nestled in the heart of upstate New York, the Indigenous Garden Project is a transformative initiative that breathes new life into historic land while honoring the untold stories of the people who shaped it. This isn’t just a garden—it’s a living tribute to the Indigenous communities and enslaved Africans who cultivated, nurtured, and stewarded this land long before it was called Upstate.
By creating a space of beauty, healing, and education, the Indigenous Garden Project seeks to restore the narrative and redefine how we view sustainability and equity in the context of land stewardship.
Restore Ecosystems and Offset Carbon
We plant native species and carbon-sequestering greenery to combat climate change. Every square foot of the Indigenous Garden absorbs carbon and restores the balance between the land and the air.
Visitors can actively participate in carbon offset programs by sponsoring plants or trees within the garden.
Reclaim History
The garden incorporates storytelling installations to share the histories of Indigenous peoples and enslaved Africans who were integral to the land’s past.
We work closely with descendants, local historians, and Indigenous leaders to ensure the narratives we share are authentic, powerful, and true.

We are in the early stages of designing our garden. The end goal is to have interactive workshops and self- guided tours and invite visitors to stay tuned for opportunities learn about sustainable land practices rooted in Indigenous knowledge and African agricultural traditions.
